Many people get frustrated when they don’t feel any major benefit from meditation. It becomes yet another relaxation tool. But is it reasonable to expect quick results?

Meditation, when effective, can have profound benefits in all areas of your life. It has the potential to keep you disease free, improve your immune system, reduce stress levels and keep you mentally sharp, calm and centered. These benefits will have ripple effects, further improving your life. You will be able to make better decisions and be more effective in your profession, relationships and other areas of life. You will have more time for hobbies, relaxation and self growth. The list can go on and on.

To become a surgeon, you study for almost 10 years, spending countless hours every week. After that you become a surgeon by education, not necessarily a ‘good’ surgeon. Further, you have to be dedicated for full 10 years. If you drop out anytime, even after 9.5 years, you are not a surgeon and get no returns for the time and money spent.

Do you even have part of that dedication towards meditation? As they say, there is no free lunch. What would you do to get all the benefits of meditation? Would you dedicate yourself to doing 30 minutes of meditation twice a day?
There is no doubt that becoming effective at meditation can take a long time, may be several years and still results are not fully guaranteed as they will depend on several other factors including your own dedication. But when you meditate twice a day, even if you are a beginner, you will feel more relaxed and be little more productive during the day.
The chances are you will recover the one hour you spend on meditation from being more productive in other activities. Do any math. It is like recovering your principle right away with a good chance of multi-fold returns to come in future.

Expecting major benefits or getting frustrated from meditation in a short period is not only un-realistic but childish.
