Most meditation instructions begin with ‘Sit down in a comfortable position. Close your eyes …’. But have you ever heard of a warm up before meditation?

Before you start any type of exercise, you are advised to warm up. Players always warm up before the match. There is even a warm up for attending meetings which consists of clarifying goals, planning the presentation and so on.

So, do we need to warm up before meditation? The answer, surprisingly, is ‘YES’. The warm up for meditation consists of gentle yoga postures and pranayam. These help prepare your body to stay in one position for a long time and begin to quiet your mind. These warm ups thereby help ease into meditation, thus leading to a longer and deeper meditative state.

As a side note, it has been said that the only purpose of Yoga is to prepare you for Mediation.
