Our beliefs can often be a self fulfilling reality. Handling big setback is a good example.
Let’s say we suddenly lose our job and as a result go into temporary depression.
Now if we are raised believing that most human beings keep going down in such situations and need medication and therapy and so on, we will visualize the same for our future and indeed go down!
But if we have had the belief that normal human beings are resilient and can recover from such setbacks, the chances are we will say to ourselves ‘I can recover too’ and indeed recover!
Notice, in both cases our belief system proves to be right.
(Ideas from the book ‘On Mental Toughness’, from Harvard business review, that I am currently reading).
